Today, after one solid week of cardio and hip hop abs - I put on my jean shorts to the pleasant discovery that they were a bit more loose than they had been just last week. It's the kind of positive sign that one needs to know they're on the right track - and I do, indeed, feel that way now. Damn my lack of dancing ability - behind the drawn shades and closed doors of my own home (or the home I'm house sitting for) I can act a complete fool to my heart's content as long as my abs start to show the signs of obedience.
The last week's continued melodrama that is my life, however, was not as pleasing as the shrinkage in my BMI. In addition to haveing one very public, and embarrassing panic attack - I've experienced the worst continuation of bad luck that I can imagine. It is as though I'm that character from the cartoon strip carrying around with me a black rain cloud of misfortune. Can I only begin to tell you how tired I am of it - of waking up each morning telling myself that the new day will bring with it a change in the wind and having that dis-proven the moment I step out in the real world. As an example - please, DEAR GOD Hoosiers.... STOP USING MY DAMN SHAMPOO! It's a small thing really and on it's own is something of just pure coincidence. But when you string in into my life lately - it's something that I just wanted to go right.
I arrive at ULTA beauty supply to find (with delight) that they have a sale on my shampoo. Oh happy day! Buy 2, Get 1 Free. Seriously, when your shampoo costs about $24 a liter... you live for these types of bargains. I reach down to the very bottom shelf where they keep the shampoo for a 6'2" woman with a history of bad luck and a bad back... and pull out one. I pull out two. I reach for the 3rd. None. Okay... find the clerk... see if they have more..... excuse me.... excuse me... EXCUSE ME! Yes, thank you for your time. (slight sarcasm). Do you happen to have any more of this in the back? Wait. Wait. Wait. "No we don't. But if you want, you can buy a liter of the conditioner and come exchange it on Thursday when we get some more in." Uhm, no. Thanks but the traffic is a bit messy over here, I'm hardly on this side of town and gas is pricey. Can you have it shipped directly to me? "No ma'am. The only shipping they do is from our online store. It would likely be an extra $8 to ship." So, you want me to pay an extra $8 to ship what I should be getting for free? No thank you.
ULTA - you just lost my business.
I guess I'll head to Beauty First - a store in the Trade Secret line. Oh good, I think when I get there and discuss the situation with the clerk; they'll match ULTA's deal. That's how a business should be - you know. Goes back to the lemonade stand guys I saw in NYC - one guy sells his for $1, so the guy across the way sells his for $.99 - It's called competition and in most cases it pays off for the consumer. So this, this is great news. I head over to the Joico brand line..... hairspray, gel, conditioner.... Uhm... Ma'am... there's no shampoo.
"Oh yeah, we don't have any of that instock. BUT if you'll wait a moment, I can call the other's stores and see if they have it and we can have it back tomorrow for you to pick up." Frustrated I rationally tell myself that this is much closer than the other store... just agree and move on with your day. Fine. Thank you. She calls the other stores. EVERYONE IN THE GREATER INDIANAPOLIS AREA IS OUT OF MY SHAMPOO!!!! This has now become ridiculous. BUT the woman assures me that they'll have some in by week's end. Okay. Fine. Move on, Kat - just come back Friday.
As I leave and begin to cross at a cross walk, a car buzzes past me and halfway through the intersection. I, being of fine and noble Northeastern stock, scream "hey. Yeah. Stop sign." To which he, being in a car that had a baby shade, screams back "yeah bitch. That's why I stopped." I respond with "nearly over my dead body - literally" He pulls away and speeds out through the parking lot. I'm sure he's going to be a great Daddy.
I get in my car. I should never have left the house. This mojo is not going anywhere and I have far too much to do at home. But a few last minute stops at several other stores leave me once again high and dry for the products in which I seek. I think back to the days when one went to a store and found the item in stock... the days before the phrase "you can order it through our website" were a glimmer in the eye of even the most nerdy tech on the premises. Today - I long for two things really... my mojo being the first - and the second being "that time". Maybe it's just the nostalgia talking but it just feels like we're living in terrible time of egocentric energy. Well, I better sign off here - after all... I do have some things to order online.
